The number of paint coats required varies depending on different factors, but it mostly depends on the method used. Typically, the spray paint gun only requires one coat of paint of 8-10 mils. For manual jobs, two coats are generally included by default.
The popular belief is that 2 coats of paint are more durable than one, but actually, it’s only a myth. The durability of a painting job depends on the adhesion to the surface, the quality of the preparation, the product used, the coat’s thickness and the tools used. One coat of paint applied with a sprayer is like two coats applied manually in only one step, but it requires more hiding.
Yes and no. Paint primer is rarely necessary for a quality job. First, primer is not less expensive than paint. The job can be done faster if we don’t apply primer because the painters won’t need to clean their brushes between each coat if both coats are done with the same paint product. Primer is only useful in some particular cases, like to paint over a surface that was previously painted with an oil paint or to manage the corrosion. As we only use the best paints, they are different from the paints you could buy in superstores.
